30: Drawing the Lines with guest Art Director Laurent Linn

4/27/2019

My guest is Laurent Linn, an Art Director from Simon and Schuster. He'll give us the inside scoop on such hot topics as: What the heck does an Art Director do?! What should an illustrator have in their portfolio? How are book jackets made? What is the "life cycle" of a picture book and why do they take soooo long to come out? And WHO PICKS THE FONTS?! Also we'll talk about vampires and theme parks, obviously.

Superb and most helpful! Many thanks to you both.

Agreed - Harry Potter World London is totally amazing, even thoroughly enjoyed by people who have never read the books or seen the movies.

I can't wait to listen to this! I've taken a couple SCBWI illustrator intensives with Laurent, he's amazing. I just wanted to point out that the Rapunzel image shown is not Trina Schart Hyman's but Paul O Zelinsky's. Equally awesome, but not Trina's. Also, I love Leo and Dianne Dillon and Trina Schart Hyman! Thanks for your podcasts, I love learning from them!
